IIGHT EVERYBODY... HERE'S WHAT IM TRYINNA DO... THERE USED TO BE A SAMPLE FLIP THREAD ON DP WAY BACK WHEN.. ALLL THE OLD FORUMS GOT DELETED, SO IM TRYINNA START AN OLD THREAD (ONE OF MY FAVORITES) ALL OVER AGAIN.. I NEED EVERYONE'S HELP TO GET DOWN WITH THIS AND KEEP IT RUNNING.
OK HERE'S HOW IT GOES TO ALL YOU NEW MEMBERS.. SOMEONE PICKS A SONG TO SAMPLE, UPLOADS THEIR SHIT, AND WE ALL TAKE A SHOT AT IT AND SHARE WITH EVERYONE, WHILE WE GIVE FEEDBACK TO EACHOTHER AND ADVICE. THIS WAS A HOT THREAD BEFORE FOR THE SAMPLE HEADS ON DP.. I ONLY GOT A CHANCE TO BE A PART OF IT RIGHT BEFORE THE FORUM SWITCH, SO I DIDNT GET THE CHANCE TO ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS EVERYONE ELSE, NOW WHO'S DOWN TO DO THIS AGAIN???

now dont no1 laugh at me, but i decided to start this off with a classic that we're all familiar with.. it's been done a lot, even for a hit record.. did u guess??the track is "Superfreak" Rick James' hit. MC hammer took it too, then just blaze chopped it up and made kingdom come. this track has prolly been chopped up a lot. but i had to do it again, and here's what i came up with.

honest feedback is much appreciated. i'm not scared of critics. thank you.

Drape, your flip is cool. Added all the drum rolls and snares. Nice chops, too.

I guess I really wasn't feeling this sample that much(the song is good), so I just did something real simple that wasn't like the other two(well counting Drape's flip it would be three)flipped versions of this sample. It's out there, but fuck it. I does what I do.

What it do Drape? Lovin the chop work...got the head knoddin' at the desk...think the bass line is just OK though...not to par with the chop work done...love how it comes in and out though...and love the outro...IMO the drum roll should be dropped in level a little...seems loud in the work cans...tight work though...
I just started listening to the sample today to see how to try to approach...

iight @ G1, thanks for the feedback first of all, and yea out of "known" songs this is the third time it's been sampled, but MC hammer's cant touch this just looped 4 bars of the beat, so i wouldnt count that u kno. now my nigga just blaze, wit kingdom come, that was piff. this song, "superfreak" it's like, the best thing about it, and why i chose it, because it's sooo easy to do w/e u want with it. the notes are so bright and clear, great bass so if you want you can either use a lowpass filter and boost it's original bass for your bassline, or make your own, and it even goes great with 808s which is what i did. so IMO you can chop this shit anyway you want. and change the pitch however you want, and make a variety of different beats/melodies. so thats why i picked it for the first flip on this thread. imma check out your beat while i reply to the other posts..

@G1, track was aight.. one part i strictly didnt like was when you suddenly raised the pitch, and it was extremely off note. i would have liked it more if it was a little faster as well. chops was good tho. i wasnt gettin that NY kick i always look for in a sampled beat, but you said yourself that you didnt put too much effort into this, so i heard what i excpected. next time do something ill so i can try to top it.. imma look for some shit i got in my stash right now, and submit the next beat AND this time also the sample so i can save ya'll some time, after that somebody else gotta take a turn, i'd like you to do it tho, since you didnt like the sample i put up, maybe you can find something better, so do you, and also check the next track and flip it before you post your sample please. post that up in a sec.

You got something, just up it. I appreciate the work Jim Bond puts in on that blog and finding some samples or just some cool tracks to listen to.

Onto the Nelson Ned sample, yeah that's a good one. I like your track(kind of loud, but maybe that was just me)and I like the bassline as well. I should say I'm not one to give a long ass paragraph on critiquing beats because for me if I can nod my head to it, I'm going to say its dope and keep doing your thing. i like giving feedback in paragraphs and also getting that type of feedback cause both sides get and give better picture of their opinions, which is really important to me.. yea felt you on the loudness with that track, but quality wasnt too good, i know i could have fixed it up but i didnt go craaazzy on mixing i barley do when i sample.

@G1, yo that track was fiyah.. a lot better than the first one.. this is why i love sampling soo much.. you cant even tell that my track and your track sample the same fuckin song.. I LOVE IT!!. yo it got a real nice vibe to. very old skool as well, i like that. sounds like old nas, or mobb deep type shit. the firm. and im just starting to hear chris wallace on this as well. great chops and great flip.
one thing i wasnt diggin was the intro. i would go in differently with the same chops. but soon as the beat dropped it was hot. and the ooo's pitch should have been slightly bent down half way through the chop, to go a little better with the melody. drums was good. again old skool. not loved by many ppl these days but im not one of those ppl. so overall, i was really feelin the track, couple minor changes could be done IMO to improve it, but quoting you, if i can bump my head to it, then its dope.. so keep doin you homie.
