Try this first. Uninstall the whole program and reinstall it. Tell us what happens afterward!!!!!
Mac or PC? Specs?
What interface do you use?
What version of Pro Tools?
Are you using your inputs? If so, which inputs?
Whats your buffer set at?

Yeah, we would need to kno a lot more than just that to troubleshoot, so uninstall it n reinstall it n if it keeps up, then go into detail.

I kno when I run PT sessions n I move too quick on a computer that's a lil' slower than wha I normally use, it craps out on me like that. The best thing I can tell u is to give your computer a rest before u have a big session. Some studios/producers have a habit of leavin' their computers on... even put them to sleep. Altho puttin' the computer to sleep should seem aiight, it really isn't. It's on standby mode, but it's still on! Turn it off completely n give the cpu a break. It needs it! Its better that u get the PT session to close out on u rather than seein' those japanese words pop up n then u have to shut down the whole computer n start it back up again (on the mac). The white noise issue sounds to me like there's somn' wrong wit your digital inputs. Try powercyclin' your interface. If u can pin point where its comin' from, then great... cause it could very well be a connection that's bad or somn' like that.
Also disabling visual effects on your OS (alotting for best performance) and setting your hard drives to NOT use a paging file should give your machine better performance in PT. Oh yea, also set Processor Scheduling to adjust for best performance of Background Services instead of Programs and that helps out a bunch as well.... I can go into more detail later.
All of this can be done by RIGHT CLICKING My Computer (In XP) and selecting Advanced. You'll find these settings in there.
