OK I NEED NEW SOFTWARE I STARTED MAKING MY BEATS WITH FRUITY LOOPS AND RENDERING THE WAVS AND LOOPING THEM WITH ADOBE AUDITION 3 BUT THEN I GOT SICK OF FRUITY LOOPS AND BETTER AT MAKING BEATS SO I GOT REASON 4. I MAKE MY BEATS WITH REASON NOW AND REASON ONLY, I HEARD ABOUT PROTOOLS BUT I DONT KNOW THE REAL BENEFIT WITH THAT. ALL I GOT IS A YAMAHA PSOMETHING I FRGOT ITS A MIDI CONTROLER. I WANT A WORKSTATION LIKE THE MOTIF X8 BUT I DONT GOT THE MONEY FOR IT, AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT I NEED TO IMPROVE MY BEATS... I GOTTA TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EVERY OPPERTUNITY .. SO IF ANYONE CAN LET ME KNOW WHAT I NEED TO EXPAND LIKE MORE SOFTWARE HARDWARE SOUNDS REFILLS ANYTHING LET ME KNOW. AND I'D APPRECIATE TO CHECK OUT MY BEATS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN WHEN I SAY I NEED MORE SHIT

Man, I have a Triton classic, MBox2 w/ ProTools LE (PT), with Reason, Recycle (and some other things that I do not use)...I have a laptop with Reason and Recycle. I have a few guitars, a bass, a digital piano...and haven't mastered any of it. One thing 9th taught us is that if you learn how to use what you do have no matter what it is, a Motiff, FL, or Reason, to the FULLEST, you will be able to crank out some tight work. ProTools is a recording SW for tracking your music, adding additional instrumentation, adding effects, adding vocals, mixing, etc....basically to put together your full package. From there, your final product heads off to mastering......ProTools is industry standard but there are a other programs like Cubase, Sonar, Nuendo, Logic, etc.....ProTools for me affords me the ability to track at home and take the session to a larger studio that uses ProTools for additional production work or work with an artist.....the ultimate goal. Hope I answered your questions somewhere in there.

I think learning new skills is WAY MORE important, than obtaining new sounds. I gave a quick listen to your soundclick to a few joints (obviously not all 3,784 beats you have up, lol) and while I do agree with you about sounds being helpful (hell I figure you can never have enough quality sounds at your disposal), knowing how to get the most out of the sounds is MUCH more important.

I do agree that some of the joints I browsed through would be upgraded with better sounds. Some sounds would need to be switched for better ones, but a lot of the sounds could be improved using different mixing/layering techniques. There are no shortcuts in music, nor a magic keyboard vst, that is just gonna magically take everything to the next level........only the knowledge and skills you obtain over the years really has that kind of effect.

Honestly, I think Reason has dope enough sounds to not hold you back from being creative. I've heard some stuff produced entirely on Reason that stands up to top level beats from some dope MPC/ASR/PT/LOGIC/FL/ETC. users. I actually use Reason 4 in my setup (just as a source for sounds every once in a while), and with a little tweaking and layering you can make some great sounds in Reason.

How long you been making beats, just out of curiosity?

My beats? Thanks...way too kind.....Every beat on my page could stand an overhaul (except for Two Hard Muggs..hahah)....I will check u out tonight. I see Jay has already check some of your beats and drop some words of wisdom....I am still learning too but will definitely be happy to share what little I know....I use Recycle to take a sample and chop it into smaller parts. I do not usually use whole loop samples (but I am starting). I do not know how to chop up a song in Recycle so I use Cool Edit to chop out sample loops/parts from a song. I open the loops/parts/samples in Recycle to chop into smaller parts which is as easy as sliding a slider. It usually renders me with individual parts (snare, kick, vocal words, horn, etc)....Really simple...seeing the process would be better for you. Do this. Go to youtube.com and search on recycle reason tutorial and you should get a ton of stuff. That is where I got started. I will hit you back on the beats....ONe.

Well doesn't really matter what DAW u use FL, Reason, Ableton, Logic,Garage Band I've heard fools make wack ass beats on top quality software, hardware, industry standard equipment, make lifeless uninspired music and your dead!
whatever DAW your using u use a midi keyboard to input the notes,so use whatever u prefer! They are all very close in how they work!
most DAW's let you use 3rd party VST's like SampleTank,Battery,Motu
Ethno instruments, Steinberg Virtual Bassist, so sound possibilities
are endless you can stack sounds like crazy make it thick and full, rich.
They all have eq's, compressors, maximizer's etc!

Most of the big keyboard workstations Yamaha Motif, Roland Fantom,
Korg OASYS, Alesis Fusion, Open Labs Meko etc, sounds collections are available as wave files,so u can use them in any DAW.Get books ,tutorials on mixing and mastering, learn how to get a pro mix radio sound, get music theory tutorials and books. The most important things,my opinion
is your Music Imagination, your Sound Collection, Musicianship Skills 'and there are ways around that with piano rolls etc' to bring it to reality.
With music skills you can compose everything from easy Soulja Boy stuff to complex classical music and jazz. Don't think that FL,or Reason etc is holding you back, a dope beat is a dope beat, the listener or prospective artist could care less what you used to cre8 it. All they know is how it makes them feel
is it bringing some kind of emotion out, does it remind of good times bad times
can the listener or artist relate to it.
    Hope it helps PEACE!

I use reason as my main tool no vst's just a boat load of top notch refills. I've searched to find ones that match top of the line vst's. Here's a link that alot of really cool DP Members used to shared their refills.

    http://theofficialdpmovementforums.d...hp?t=17&page=3

I mix in side reason only, now if you know the tricks you can make some heat this way. I have a blog where I posted a few videos on mixing and mastering using just reason. http://blactracks.blogspot.com/

I have picked up alot of tips on mixing and mastering in reason from another site Todays Beats http://www.todaysbeats.com/ .
This guy Tee is super cool and has some of the best all round production tips I have heard.

For recording vocals I use reaper http://www.reaper.fm/ as my main DAW for $50 it's the real deal.

So my set up is Reason 4.0, Recycle 2.0, Reaper, boat load of refills, M-Audio Trigger Finger, M-Audio Studio Session Keyboard that's it. hope this helps

I cosign. This has become a cliche statement among producer, but it doesn't really matter what you use.

The other day, I heard a "producer" talking about the music they could make if they were in Timbaland's studio............and I told him you can put a monkey in Tim's studio, and i'm pretty sure he's still gonna be a fuckin monkey. Just because you sleep in the garage, doesn't mean your gonna wake up a car.

I mean, hell.......Tiger Woods has better golf clubs than you, but if you gave him your golf clubs..........and he gave you his.....he would still be better than you. His resources just make the gap even larger so u have to work that much harder than he's working if you ever wanna catch up.

a little more than a year. i just wanted to make a few beats on FL so i can spit over them, but then i got the hang of it and decided to get in to it a little more. and i heard about FL back in the day wen i seen mannie fresh talkin about it on MTV when i was like 14. now im 16 turnin 17 in april. but i really love this game. i was into rappin only cause i can freestyle, but i never wanted it as a carreer. but i can see myself as a producer. and i love this whole DP thing. i get to talk to ppl just like me, and they help me out while i help them out. Jaay you got some words of wisdom and i think a lot of young new producers like me can learn a lot from you. thanks for the feedback and advice. 1
