I recently got a Alesis QS8 controller/synthesizer and I want to midi it up with my mpc 2500 so that I can sequence on the mp but when I go to record, the alesis switches to a different sound. What am I doing wrong?

thats where your problem lies. in order for you to be able to record multiple tracks of midi, the keyboard has to have at a 16 track sequencer itself, another way to do it is your gonna have to sample what your playing, get what Im sayin. Thats how I used to do it before I knew what Midi was.

You are saying I cannot use midi to record the melody from the alesis into the mpc? Because I am able to record into the mpc from the alesis but when I press record on the mpc the alesis sends a different sound than the one I was playing (the notes are the same but the instrument is different).

Oh you no what -I had the expansion cards loaded into the back of the alesis and that was throwing off the signal. It works fine now. Thanks for helping out and stay up!

If your keyboard dosen't have to ability to do like Part 1 or a part 2, so on and so on, like can you get on the keyboard and do this,
    example:
    Keyboard>>>>>>>>>MPC
part 1 Piano - MPC midi track a1
part 2 Strings- MPC midi track a2
part 3 Synth- MPC midi track a3

If your keyboard dosne'nt have a sequencer your not gonna be able to record midi. Your gonna keep having the problem that your having.

I see what you are saying. There are several different options for transmitting midi on this keyboard but I don't have a manual so I have to try them. I am not used to using midi. -I got the alesis for 300. It has good piano and synth sounds and a few drum kits so I am happy with it.

Yo I was just lookin at that jawn, it looks like it should be able to do what you want it to do, I thought it was one of those 25-37 key joints, it looks pretty solid, what does it sound like, are the sounds strong/solid.

Yeah it's an 88 key, weighted, nice controller. the sounds that it has are as good or better than the same type of sounds on some newer boards. It's just that the newer boards may have some extra "new" sounds. It does not have a sequencer though. I'm going to call tech support and find out the most effecient way to get the sounds into the mpc

What DAW are you using? Not sure what your workflow is, but you can like ceasi says, record your playing into the MP or play your keyboard recording the midi into your DAW of choice making your keyboard like a sound module. Your DAW would play the midi thus triggering your keyboard sounds as you played them, and also triggering your MP at the same time.

I figured it out. Alesis tech support talked me through coordinating the mpc with the keyboard. -Now I work with the sequence in the mpc and finish it off in protools.
