    Hey DP Fam!

What do you guys use as far as mics and mic pre amps? Currenlty, I am using a Groove Tubes Mic and a M-audio Project Mix. My goal is to try to get warmer less harsh sounding vocals.

At one time I was using the Neumann TLM 103 and the Avalon 737sp. I dont have either of those anymore, but I swear, that was the best combo I have ever worked with as far as mic & pre. Expensive, but It didnt take hardly any processing after recording to get that magical sound.

Now I'm using some other shit and it aint quite the same. I got out of the Benz and now I push a Toyota type situation.

I know that was a crazy setup, Neumann mics are nice and a Avalon amp, whew. What happened did you have to sell.

I swear by my Rode NTK

my pre is nothing like what I would love (ua 1176 (or the combo joint with the 610) - or an avalon 737 - 727 whatever)

aside from that - I always hear great things about focusrite & presonus

but I swear by my mic - just gotta replace the tube every so often (Rode will ship a replacement for free whenever you need it - just one at a time)

i had a client buy the presonus eureka for his chain over his stock digi 003 preamps. i was actually impressed with how they sounded for the pricepoint. he was running an at4040 into it.

Old studio - it's a loooooooooong story, but basically the gear belonged to the landlord/investor.

I had been running a Shure KSM32 into a Presonus Eureka for about a year. It was a very clean sound that I was pleased with. I've always heard the Eureka is the best pre for the budget minded buyer.

I use a Motu 8pre and an AKG Perception. Not real high end, but it gets the job done.

Just got an apogee ensemble the other day but havn't tried out the pre yet,
As for mic i'm using audio technica 4033 which is quite versatile for rapping and singing. Its always good to have a few mics at hand!

I got the Neumann TLM 103 going into the Avalon 737sp like Leck used to have. I actually just finished a session with a singer 30 mins ago using that combo..worked great. It really is a good warm sound. I also have the Bluebird mic which i hardly use anymore. I find the TLM 103/Avalon combo to work great on everything.

    I currently use a bock audio/soundelux u195 and an api 512c dope!
the API 512 is a dope pre for vocals. super clean, wide frequency response, but you can also get it saturated and phat if you push the gain !
