I've never used cool edit but im pretty that uses vst right? if it does one thing you have to think about is having to get vst wrapper to use the vst plugins, to include FL8. if thats not a big deal then another thing you gotta think about is PT 7.4 is not really good for recording midi or sequencing. I have read and seen 8 and it looks straight. Why dont you stay with Cool Edit? Or better question is, what is your reason for switching?

If you're going to get Pro-tools 8 then you should be just fine you may need Adapt for your Vst's but they have midi scoring and elastic time do just like HM says and
go on over to http://www.Digidesign.com and check out the specs I just used Pro-
tools 7.3 today for a session.

I use logic myself and was thinking about making the pt switch. Is it good for beat making or should I continue to use logic?

    don't be absolutely 100% 5
people only switch from protools TO logic - what version are you on? why would you POSSIBLY switch???

but for real - pro tools is a great program - not my top choice - but you NEED to know it - i can function decently in Pro Tools

THE MAIN ADVANTAGE OF PRO TOOLS IS THIS:

Nah, but I agree wit everything he said.....except i've never used logic before so I can't speak on going from Logic to Pro Tools. But I can say this as a pro tools power user for quite a while. Pro Tools will get the job done but a few things to note.

B4 I made the jump a long ass time ago, I researched Pro Tools for like 3 weeks, what it was capable of, what I would need it for vs. my current setup, and why I HAD TO have Pro Tools. At the time, it was the all in one DAW I was lookin for with some features that I preferred over Cubase (which i'm not a huge fan of for ALL OUT production. Pro Tools is dope, but in addition to those things consider this..........you might want to check out pro toosl grace period on upgrades because if you buy a pro tools rig too far b4 they drop version 8, your gonna have to pay for that upgrade. Shit sucks right. Well, that's PT. Oh, and Make sure you check your compatibility because Pro Tools will make an ass out of you if you don't have a supported processor or motherboard and an external hard drive to record to. Usually people overlook it because it doesn't matter, but with PT I promise you it will.

I don't cosign the move. Go to Reaper. Much doper than Pro Tools. Pro Tools can't hold Reaper's dirty jockstrap, and this is coming from a guy who you would've though had a Pro Tools endorsement less than a year ago. Your call though man, good luck.

GeeWiz did you catch the message on Digidesign that says whoever buys PT 7.4 will get a free upgrade to 8.0

I just jump to Logic this week and I'm loving it. The learning curve is minimal so im already laying shit down.
