when i mix vocals...... why cant i cut out a piece of the audio track and change the volume of just that piece? it sucks to always use automation or create new tracks for all these little pieces.

i can click on that piece and it opens in the sample editor, but all the alterations i make in the sample editor automatically apply on the entire audio track.

you can - just go to (on the main screen)

    click on VIEW

    HYPERDRAW

    VOLUME

lock in the points at the same volume level at the end of the 1st piece and the beginning of the 3rd piece (the 2nd being the audio slice u separated)

then just lower the levels for that one middle slice

If you still did not find the audio editor all you have to do is double click on the wave file and it will open up the editor.

homie is right, double click on the wav file it will open up the sample editor, from there you can go into FUNCTIONS>>>GAIN CHANGE>> and set the gain higher or lower to your taste !

you may find automation annoying but it's the best solution. making 'gain' changes (sometimes destructive) can create more problems than it's worth.

volume automation is one of the most powerful tools (along with processing automation) and can take the place/compliment of dynamic processing, especially to avoid over compressing a signal, and the random peaks which cause some to slam too much from a limiter.
