Steve Stout's Letter to the Recording Academy

So did anyone read this letter? What do you think? Personally, I don't see why the Grammy's should give awards to people that are already so popular and sell millions of records already. frankly these days a lot of artists are not so talented. Even when they are, the industry strips down most of their talent and waters down the music so much just so they can get air play. And then this non sense should be awarded????? Hell no!!!!

I know Justin Beiber is talented, but honestly his music does not reflect that. His performance that night certainly did not convince me to buy his music. Esperanza Spalding on the other hand, I have seen her perform and watched tons of her youtube videos. She doesnt have half the exposure Beiber has and she is so gifted. Shouldn't she at least get some kind of recognition that will help prolong her career. I'm glad the grammys gave the award to her. Eminem has so many awards and has sold billions of records, so what marshal mathers didnt get album of the year. Same with Kanye west, so what herbie Hancock won over him a few years ago for best album. Its called "Best Album", not "Best Selling Album'.

Let the grammy's be about awarding people who put in a lot of work in their music, people that evolve with their music and make good music because today those people are not recognized, most music being put out there today is no good and this is something EVERYONE is saying.

So I don't really agree with Steve Stout, I see where he is coming from but why glorify artists that are already being glorified so much.

Agreed. I rolled my eyes when I read it. He's basically saying that the Grammys SHOULD be based on sales. Which, 90% of the time they are anyway. By his logic, I'd like to see Raekwon or Roc Marciano win 2 years running, not Eminem.

The same theme plays over and over on many of the top social media sites as well... Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Last FM. Same ole artists all over again. You have to dig down deep and get your hands dirty to find the lesser known diamonds in the ruff. Time consuming and frustrating.
