Tramp



As you beatdiggers know, cover versions of a song with an ill break often have that same ill break - but with a new flavor. Such is the case with the 1967 Song Tramp by Lowell Fulson - covered by Otis Redding & Carla Thomas (yes, THAT Otis, Watch the Throne fans).

The Lowell Fulson version opens with funky guitar stabs and a bassline over drums - which has been sampled dozens of times.







The Otis Redding & Carla Thomas version offers up an open drum break, and also has been sampled over and over again.







So for this month's Chop Shop, we'll do it a little different - you can sample each version of Tramp - or both!

Dope. Where everybody body else at? Been a few days since this was posted. I just learned about DP today. Ima try to rock these samples.

What are the rules? Only use sounds from the samples? Can we use external sounds?

I personally prefer using only whats in the sample..

You can use other sounds too. Or not. Have fun with it and flip however you feel. You can look back at previous months to get a feel for what other folks have been doing.

I'm gonna try to give this a shot, I've been extremely busy lately but I want in!
