Yes, long distance relationship. You have an artist on the other side of the country who wants to work with you on a few tracks. Anybody in this situation or have been? I want to get some advice on how to do this successfully without forking out the plane tickets.

Well, it all depends on how u two want to work together. If they wanna be there while you're creatin' or u wanna be wit them while they're writin'... then someone's visitin' someone. If u have the space in ya crib for them to stay n for u two to get work done... then tell them to fly over! If the situation is vice versa, then take the trip - lol! Other than that, all I can suggest is u shootin' the track over... them writin' to it n gettin' it recorded over there n then shootin' u the vocal session when they're done so u can get it mixed. Or, they can take a trip/u can take a trip n both of u can split a studio n mix it.

@starting 5... i can beat that one, homie.. im from ny and most artist i work with are in ny.. but im unfortunatly in armenia for the last 2 years, and also for the next 2 years.. it's a bitch doing everything online, but you get the hang of it when you dont have another choice, one thing i hate, is when i send my artist a beat, and he gets on it, and sends his vocals back to me to mix and master the track, i get garbage, and the intrernet here is too slow to send 500-800 mb zip folders back and forth online everyday, so of course its a bitch, but if your not in a shithole like i am, i think it'll be a little easier to deal with, so explain the situation a little better, I.G., tell us where who what when, your goals with that artist/producer. you know? i think many on DP have done collabos long distance and most of us can help you out.

i wouldn't mind traveling if i did my music on a laptop. the artists i'm working with "can't" travel out to where i'm at either because they have other priorities or they don't have the funds.

what i want to know is, how do you communicate with each other or keep the vibe going. what works? what doesn't?

yo i make international calls to 10 different people a day plus my family. and i cant hide that it's stressful keeping in touch with so many people at once, when you cant even see them often, and your planning on doing BIG buisness with them.. i have a really good friend, who raps. he lives in the bronx and i've known him for 6 years. i used to rap with him, nothing big, just for fun. he chose to go on the same road, and i started producing. he's planning on releasing an online album in august, which i think is WAAAY too early. and he's using like 10 of my beats, paying me $100 for each one exclusive licenses and no strings attatched, cause he's my nigga. i love him like a brother, but lately, while i been steppin my game up on the professional status, this dude who's 21 and i'm only 17, is acting like my 14 year old brother. he wants to release an album, record in his crib, and sell the shit, to save money for a "tour" he's planning next year. i told him the plan was ridiculous cause frankly "he aint shit yet" but he's tellin me na i gotta do the tour to get money. conflict number 1. conflict number two is that his shit that he records in the crib, he excpects me to mix and master it. i swear to god yo, i was mixing one of his vocals a couple weeks ago, and i heard his baby sister crying in the background, cop sirens, tv sound, so much bullshit, PLUS the ROOM. which gave many unwanted sounds in the background. and i told him to get it done in a studio. na, b. i cant. im broke. but homie buys weed liquor stoages and jordans everyday, but he's too "broke" to pay for studio time.. iight, b. do you. i took the shit.. did wtf i could with it. hated it. and the worst part aobut it is, HE LOVED IT!! lmfaoo. he said it was the hottest shit he ever heard this that. you can hear it by the way if you want its on my soundclick page and my myspace. anyways this is way too long already. basically, yea i'm bitchin about working overseas. and i would not recomend doing that, but if the pay is good, or there's friendship involved, then you gotta make your choice. and yo if the artists your working with seem to "not give a fuck aobut" you and your deal, then i suggest throwin them away and findin someone else. cause if working with YOU isnt important to them, that relationship and/or deal, wont go ANYWHERE. i dont know. from my experience, i've been having lots of trouble with shit like this, so if you sense you'll be feeling just like me in a month, then dont do it. at the end it's all up to how much you want/need it. base your decission on that. and if it's really important to you, and your deticated to it, then i think you'll find a way somehow. its always like that. the more you want that apple, the better it tastes homie. remember that.
