When promoting, networking, marketing, or whatever we have to do to put our names and business out to the world we know it's gonna cost something. Ok, now that we already know that, how do we know when we use our crdeit and debit cards that we are getting closer to our dream or success and not getting ripped off? I ask this qusetion because I submit a lot of my Artists' music on various websites. How can a person find out if these A&R's or DJ's are even listening to the music? How do we know that they ain't just hustling people like us that's trying to get on? What is a good way to figure this out??? From what I seen so far DP is official and it can happen thru hard work and serious networking/promoting. What's good with some of these other sites tho?

I asked a similar question to myself when thinkin' of joinin' one of these sites to see if somn' could be benificial towards wha we're doin'. I took it upon myself to do as much research as I could... n that was free - lol! I looked into Producers Market Place n Music Placements n I Got Beats n all the other sites. Honestly, I feel like they're all nonsense. I checked out DP n read the testimonials. One thing I saw was there was no video of anyone hypin' the site up like how PMP n the others have on their sites. It made me aware that not only do they see that they're missin' out on technology (lmao), but they don't follow anyone else. They do their own thing. The conferences they hold n events they throw is very well orchestrated n extremely benificial for producers, writers, artists, etc. There's windows of opportunities for various avenues in music that's offered here. Not to mention, everyone is on their grind (just about everyone... Mr. 2xklusive is still on my suspect list)!

Most of these sites are about gankin' u for your bread. That's another thing I noticed about DP. The price is great! If some of u don't kno any better about the business side of music, then I'd advise the Pro Membership... its worth the money. However, if u have things somewha prioritized, then u can pay the regular. Either way, you're not gonna go broke tryinna maintain membership.

U have to do your research on all these companies that say they're about somn'. Even doin' further research on this new site, I've noticed DP has had a placement every year. At least one placement a year, that's somn' to brag about. I don't think any of the other sites can say that since they've started their organizations they've gotten placements every year. That lets u kno how much DP is on their grind!

I respect DP that's why I'm still here. They don't give me the impression that some of those other mind fucking sites give me! I look at DP like this, if I do my job DP will do the rest. And it gives you the industry opps. But I learned that a producer can't depend on just one way to grind. We have to take as many avenues as we can!!!!

A few things that turned me off about PMP was when

1) I found out that there was a bit of favoritism going on; especially when they would have established producers on there free of charge just for going on video and promoting the site. Meanwhile I'd fork over, what was it ...$50 a mo. for membership of something I didn't even know was getting heard. Yea...that lasted only 2 months.

2) There was no member to member interaction whatsoever so that left me in the dark pretty much. I couldn't really voice any concerns, questions, etc.

3) No press events/nothing...

Real shady...

At least with DP: I can communicate with fellow members and actually build relationships which is NECESSARY in this business. Maybe even moreso than landing a placement on DP. Just the opportunity to network and build relationships through the conferences should be enough reason for any producer to sign up for DP.

Real talk.

For 1, it shouldn't be no favortism when it comes to music. That's what's wrong with the music industry now. A lot of that shit ain't even hot. A guy my age and my caliber(DJ) and listener whose been around to see the game change numerous eras, knows what good music is. This shit on radio makes me listen to my beats in my truck. I hate radio now. But getting back to the subject, I went to check out PMP a year ago and didn't like their demeanor. DP taught me a lot about the technical side of things about producing/beatmaking, Pro Tools, and other topics. Plus it's some good guys and girls on here that know their shit. A lot of other site are very limited to feedback and other services. DP can be like class. With DP why would I need to go to school for Production? U can learn all u need to know right at your computer.

Pretty much... but there's always work to be done wit any producer in gettin' those trax to be as great as they should be. From the simplest to the most complex trax, they should all be well thought out of. I will admit, I don't listen to the radio either (there is a lot of garbage bein' played). This isn't always the case tho, n I need to plug my radio back in so I can listen to it so I can see what's out there. The more u kno, the more u gro! Just make sure u got heat n don't immitate wha u don't like, cause that will kill u! But, DP is pretty much where u need to be for a number of reasons if you're an up and comin' producer, or even a producer wantin' to learn the tricks of the trade. There's a lot of knowledge here, as well as a lot of good networkin' capabilities!

You have to take a proactive approach to your career. Some sites and movements are for profit, some truly care about your advancement. I believe that DP is an undeniable example of the latter. If you manage your own career you will have to align yourself with people who do what you do and stay focused on your goal! Sometimes that involves taking risks. But where would we be if we didn't?

but remember, you don't get tracks placed by bashing pmp or any other organization...put that energy into doing something positive for yourself

I'm not bashing PMP. All the best to them, because who they work with are probably the same folks DP work with...

I'm just speaking on my own experiences.

They need more user to user to exec communication because as of now, it's pretty much just look at their Youtube videos, and take their word for it that they'll even listen to anything.

Word!...I agree with some of everything said...In my short stint with DP, I have had opportunities to submit to projects I would have never had a chance to, but more so, I have got down with some other pretty cool cats on their grind like me...but not so much that they do not have time to help out someone else...and for the price, I you can't loose...I have gotten my sound game up, my mixing game up (still working on getting it higher..lol), my understanding, all that...shout out to all the other legit sites helping us out...you have to check'em all out along with any other possible avenues for sure....but DP is first love...home.
