LMFAO I translated it as "give us something with a hook that can be in autotune." Because in all complete honesty, anyone familiar with Juelz Santana's work knows that he does not sound right on a beat that sounds like "Live Ya Life."

Just saying...

It's a weird thing to ask for - for Santana. I don't think he'd fuck with that crossover track they're asking for neither. He needs them Harlem hits with them shuffles. Real bra poppers. Harlem got its own swagg that he is a representative of in his music.

OH MY GOD... FIRST I CAN'T GO TO SLEEP, THEN I SEE SWAG N BACKPACK IN THE SAME SENTENCE! Its official, we're all gonna die - lmfao!

I hear wha u're sayin' about that whole Juelz thing KS. Here's where the line gets fuzzy for me. It seems that A&Rs apparently "kno" what's "poppin'" when it comes to trax. They kno wha the artist needs. This is why most producers who are IN just go straight to the artist themselves n bypass the middle man... oops, I mean A&R. If Juelz is lookin' for that himself personally or if they think he can actually pull it off... then get all the Just Blaze u can. But, I'm wit u on that... Harlem has their own thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone from DP actually did have that requirement n it got denied cause that wasn't the "direction" Juelz was goin' in in the first place (Dancin' On Me n alllat...)! OH MY GOD, I'M REALLY UP AT 8:14AM LISTENIN' TO N LOOKIN' AT SWAG SURFIN' ON MTV2 - DAMN U CD (the braudz on the bus look yummy tho)!!! OH MY GOD, THAT CRISPY DUDE IS IN THE VID! NOW KANYE'S DEPRESSIN' ASS... ARGH!!!

Let's move on, shall we... its true wha u guys are sayin'. U wanna get to the point u become a manufacturer wit your production. However, u would hope to end up in a Fat Joe situation n not in a situation wit Fat Joe... i.e. "Hey kid, that beat is dope. I'll buy it off of u for a few stax, but I needz all dat cred so I can get paid... CRACK CRACK CRACK!" Not to mention, its not promised to u that somn' gonna happen... we're all grindin'. I think u gotta get your trax up to par, but also to the point u just fit in a situation where they wanna deal wit u cause of the outcome u had wit whatever artist u worked wit. U could get a placement on a Mos Def album n it could be the hottest track of 09, but it won't get u any call backs when Lil' Wayne comes back out wit part 2 of Lolly Pop... Sour Patch. "Whoever did that Sour Patch joint is NICE... WE NEED WHOEVER THAT IS ON THE TRACK TO MAKE SOME FIAH FOR THIS ARTIST" says the wack A&R. Its not just about the points u guys made, but its also about who u work wit, where u fit in, who u come in under or wit, etc. in my opinion.

Let's just face it and cut to the chase.

Some A&Rs got the brain size of a door knob and need to be enrolled in an English course to get their adjective game up. Let's just be blunt and call it how it is...

"For Juelz, we need something that'll get spins, meaning a positive themed anthem - something with a strong IMPACT like TI's Live Ya Life"

There's nothing wrong with putting it like that. We're in the music biz too, we understand. Juelz Santana on Live Ya Life would be a horrible blend IMO and that was so last year. Hip Hop is always about reinventing and Juelz is a character in his own space to carve out the new sound so we're not talking about some rookie artist here. But that's just me....

I take it that they want a strong positive heavy radio spins anthem for this opp. And I love it! I mean they're out for us all to make big bucks and get them spins - they just need to learn how to express what they want better. End of story.

Maestro, the thread is back in your Grammy grimey hands. LOL

@Beatfellaz LMAO....man, because I am an old head break dancer from South Florida, I grew up on Two Live Crew, Luke, Poison Clan, Ghetto Boyz and Rap-o-lot (Gangsta Nip..one of the original Horror-core rappers), Jam Pony Tapes... and Eric B. & Rakim, BDP, Native Tongues, Juice Crew, EPMD, NY Mixtapes...I am a hybrid of Down South and Up North (East Coast).......not to mention, when I got into NWA....I am one big melting pot of musicical influences......so please don't take my backpack, please!!!

@ Mr. KS...no doubt... I took the opt as looking for a radio friendly positive joint to get spins...which is all good, if that is the direction/type of track Juelz himself wants...but when going thru an A&R, you have to give them what they are asking for hoping it is in the direction the artist is trying to go...

@KraftSingles I actually disagree SOMEWHAT with the "brain the size of a doorknob" comment about A&R's though......most A&R's aren't stupid. Just in a spot that involves a lot of conflicts of interests. For example, there are A&R's who manage producers. Meaning they get a percentage off the placements of their producers. Which means it makes NO sense financially for them to help YOU get on a record when they can get their producer on a record and get paid for it. If i'm that A&R, why in the pure hell would I not get paid to do what I was gonna have to do anyway?

I agree, its best to cut out the middleman whenever possible, but you gotta deal with A&R's at some points......that's just the way it is. Just don't let a negative mindstate with regard to the politics of the industry cause you to become overly frustrated. No A&R and no artist can stop you from getting where you wanna go. Only YOU can stop you.

Maestro,

Before you started getting placements, did you have to deal with balancing your music with a "regular job?" If so, how did you do this?
