    Dynamic Producer
So tell us a little about yourself. When did you fall in love with music? When did you marry music production?
    Stupid Genius
As the youngest of four kids my eyes and ears were open to culture and music as early as I can remember. I remember my brother having a birthday party when I was like 5, and seeing them breakdance and moonwalk to Herbie Hancock's ROCKIT and Michael Jackson's Thriller in parachute pants. Yeah that's what got me first. I has happend in stages, it's been a long engagement. From playing the piano when I was seven, through years of classical study, in addition to jazz, blues, and contemporary music, I taught myself to play the bass and guitar, started DJing, messed around with samplers, breakbeats, remixing vinyl tracks, recording my boys/MCs, holding down a college radio show for 5 years, DJ at parties and clubs, got an MPC2000, got into computer sequencing and multitrack recording, etc... The marriage has been complete for a few years, since the fusion of all elements and knowledge of 20 plus years has evolved into a force of making great songs and beats, working with talented individuals, and being in love with the process, the creative aspect that is...

Those who’ve been in the production game for a minute knows that it’s evolved from the art of production to the way that music is delivered. How do you use technology and software to improve not only your music, but your hustle as well?
    Stupid Genius
One thing is for certain, success in this industry is only available though the employment of strategic networking. Relationships are everything. You must create them in-person through a mutual connection, or online. Technology enables me to instantly communicate with anyone, and deliver product instantly as well. I am mobile, open 24/7. And for production, just ask a 15 year old beat-maker explain their process, then let a 45 year-old producer or engineer tell you how much time, money, manpower, and equipment it took to make that same process happen back in the day.
    Dynamic Producer
We live in a day and age where everyone makes beats and where many producers are on edge for a major label placement. What’s your take on the impact of the recession on the industry and how it relates to new producers trying to get that first major label placement?
Stupid Genius Budgets are tighter. Labels are majoritively trend chasers. They want the hot summer version of damn near the same hot song of the spring. But there is still plenty of money out there to be made. You have to differentiate your sound, but keep it on the same or higher production and engineering quality level than the standard. Maximizing your relationships and staying consistent are the only things that will enable one to have longevity in a music career.
    Dynamic Producer
Now let us offer you a great big CONGRATULATIONS for inking your 1st publishing/licensing deal. You’ve been into music licensing for awhile now and you’ve also sold sounds on the internet. Speak on the importance of producers diversifying their grind to just get music out there in various facets so they can start making money.
    Stupid Genius
Though major label budgets are tighter and indie label budgets are damn near non-existent, there are other avenues to earn a decent income outside of dealing with record labels, which exist in the many platforms for licensing your music. If you study how music is attached to almost every form of media, you will begin to see how money is made in each different form. First, your catalog of music must be in order. Once you figure out who the buyer is for what you are selling (the licensed useage of your copyrighted material) and how to get to them, you will learn to repeat those steps for the next 20 buyers. I know the startup and the actual transition to earning good money for many of us takes seemingly forever and for some never happens, but once you get your business down and your product world-class, you are ready to roll no matter what anyone tells you. Create the system, repeat. That's the business, which has nothing to do with making a beat or writing a song.
    Dynamic Producer
So what else does this incredibly STUPID (stupid = dope) Genius have on deck outside of everything we’ve learned so far? Where do you see yourself in 4-5 years?
    Stupid Genius
I am a partner on a couple projects with Multi-platinum (Snoop Dogg, Eastsidaz, Warren G) producer Keith Clizark in LA, we have a sample set/loops series coming out on Big Fish Audio, called "Hip-Hop Island", I am the producer for SouthCoast Records here in Orlando and we have some big records in the works, I'm signed to about 15 music libraries/licensing companies on a non-exclusive basis, I have a decent amount of beats placed on major network cable TV shows, I collab frequently with other producers (all of which I met through Dynamic Producer), and I have several tracks I recorded with a couple artists who are very promising. I see the next five years being the best of my life.
    Dynamic Producer
We sometimes feel that producer websites and organizations are almost the new hustle. For a new producer trying to navigate their way to grow both sonically and from a business perspective, why would you recommend producers join Dynamic Producer first and foremost before anyone other website, organization, or event?
    Stupid Genius
It's an organization of people who elevate each other. I have not seen the level of camraderie in any other similar organization. It is a network where like-minded individuals provide countless insight, constructive criticism, collaborative effort, and shared opportunites. It has been the single most important tool to my craft and career as a professional producer.
    Dynamic Producer
In closing, what would you say to producers new at trying to get in as well as those who’ve been grindin for a minute?
    Stupid Genius
The major label hustle is only part of it. Don't just make beats. Make songs. Supersize your network. Talk to everyone. Buy people drinks. Get in every session you can. Develop your own artists. Release your music independently. If you get approached with a deal, great, if not, keep it moving and exploit your polished product down every possible avenue, if you really want to make money. But all the business aside, if we didn't love the art and creation, we really wouldn't go through ALL this trouble of trying to impress people that are in a position of power. Cuz if you have been on your grind, you know that this industry is just plain ridiculous. All the interesting characters you will encounter, all the empty promises, all the Hollywood attitudes, all the paper-thin talent and job security-influenced decision making that goes on, it's overwhelming a lot of the time. But there are enough good people and real opportunites out there to let me move forward with confidence.
