Sierra Leone singer Prince Kuti-George, better known as Innocent, has recorded several political songs, including "Ejectment Notice," which is credited with helping spark a ballot-box rebellion in 2007. His latest song, "Leh Wi Gi Dem Chance," urges people to give the two-year government of President Ernest Koroma a chance. (Liz O. Baylen / Los Angeles Times / July 30, 2009)
Reporting from Freetown, Sierra Leone - Everywhere he went in Freetown's ghettos, a dreadlocked young vocalist named Innocent heard the plea. People were fed up with lies, theft and corruption. This government had to go, they said, and they begged Innocent to speak out.
So late one night, Innocent drove to Forensic Studios, a rundown pair of rooms on a clamorous downtown street. The sound engineer was asleep on an old sofa, and Innocent shook him awake.
"Let's do something," Innocent said, "and release it tomorrow."

When our illustrious founder FBI asked me to write about a day in the life of a DP A&R, one word came to mind.......insanity. Some days leave me looking like this:

I don't think I could really speak on any one day as representative of them all since it varies greatly from day to day. But, in general, it never ceased to amaze me how any given day can go from "ok, i got a plan of how everything in my day is gonna work out" to "I have NO idea how i'm gonna get everything done" with just one phone call or gmail chat convo.
